The first day at a new job is always nerve-racking. Understandably, the majority of new employees feel that the inevitable first day, is one of the most frightening and stressful things you can experience. Within the first week of a new job, most will admit to having made mistakes ? the most frequent being mixing up colleagues names, not getting to work on time or accidentally mistaking a superior for a junior colleague. These sorts of mishaps are a result of nerves and are common mistakes that can be avoided.
Before starting your new job, you might like to travel to the office to see how long it will take. This will give you an idea of what time you should leave in the morning in order to get to work on time. If you have questions, call and ask. They will not think less of you ? in fact, they will be impressed that you made that extra effort. Commonly, people worry about a number of things on their first day.
Many are concerned that they will not be able to do their job. There are also concerns about being able to fit in with your colleagues, thinking that you may do or say something silly or that you will arrive on your fist day wearing the incorrect attire. On your first day, try to smile (regardless of whether you would rather cry).
